The first challenge of summit day was to digest breakfast at 03:45 and at 6000m! Then we kitted up and set off in the cold and dark at 5am.

It took 7 hours and 50 minutes to reach the top of Mount Aconcagua (6940m), a distance of 2.8 miles. It was extremely tough going and one of the hardest things I have ever done.

Reaching the top was emotional. All the training and preparation had paid off. We had a team photo in perfect weather and admired the incredible views.

The climb back down was hard. I was suffering, but halfway down my energy picked up. My big toes are pretty bad, the nails will probably come off at some point due to frost nip. A small price to pay.
